Hello! I was flying HV as per a AFVA scheduled flight the other day (HV5461).

Online on VATSIM, I was informed by a controller that the real ICAO code should have been TRA / TVF depending on whether it's Transavia Holland or France. They use ICAO for this. HV /TO is is IATA format, typically for ticketing etc.

For future HV named scheduled flights from AFVA, may I change my callsign to TRA/TVF respectively ?

Hi Christian,

Yes, you are required to use the ICAO codes when flying online, so the use of TRA/TVF/AFR/KLM/DAL etc etc is required. For ACARS and Schedules we use the IATA 99% of the time. The only time in the schedules you'll see the ICAO code being used like GOL flights to name but one, is because, it doesn't like it when the IATA has a number in it, and so it doesn't work. As GOL is G3, it thinks the 3 is part of the flight number and therefore wont allow you to file it, so we had to insert them with the ICAO code to allow them to work with ACARS. But ONLINE ALWAYS use the ICAO Codes.

Hope this helps

Roger

I had the same problem with this before. But im thinking like this if i would fly youre flight:
Company: Transavia (Holland)
Flightnr: 5461

When i fly online i file HV5461 as my flightnumber, but my "callsign" will be TRA5461 (Transavia5461).

I had another flight 2 days ago:
Company: AirFrance
Flightnr: 6206

Filed: AF6206, and my "callsign" was AFR6206 (AirFrance6206).

If im not sure what callsign i should use, i use to just search for example AF6206 on google and there you have it.
